ABC Renews Private Practice, Apartment 23
ABC has renewed dramas Private Practice and Body of Proof, along with freshman comedies Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 and Last Man Standing, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
Private Practice‘s renewal comes as somewhat of a surprise. Shonda Rhimes’ medical drama suffered a huge drop when it moved to Tuesdays, sliding nearly 30 percent to a series low of 6.1 million viewers and a 1.5 in the demo. The series debuted in 2007 to 14.41 million viewers. Rhimes’ other dramas, Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, were already renewed.
Body of Proof and Apartment 23 were also surprises, with the former’s most recent outing drawing only 10.05 million viewers and regularly losing the timeslot battle in the adults-18-to-49 demographic. Freshman comedy Apartment 23 drew just 5.69 million viewers in its latest outing, down from the 6.91 that tuned in for the series premiere. Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing drew 6.62 million in its season finale, down from the 12.93 in the series premiere.
The news comes shortly after the network reportedly canceled Pan Am, GCB, The River and Missing.

Episode 1.6: It’s Just Sex…
June is in spring cleaning mode. Unfortunately, she can’t use the feminine wash Chloe picked up to polish the shelves. June donates lots of her roommate’s old stuff to her Korean church’s rummage sale. Afterwards, she daydreams about the cute guy who comes into the coffeehouse while in a warm tub. Okay, she does more than just daydream under all those tub bubbles.
June is mortified when Chloe catches her rub-dub-dubbing herself in the tub. She admits to having a crush on the handsome “soy latte” guy with great abs. Too bad the hot stud is dumb as a brick. That’s why June can’t get involved with him. Chloe encourages her to have casual sex with the guy. June is worried that she’ll be bad at it, so Chloe offers to show her a sex tape she made with James to brush up. Unfortunately, it’s one of the items that got donated to the Korean church.
While working with his Dancing with the Stars partner, Valentina, James gets a call saying that the sex tape is about to be released. James’ adviser (his mom) says that he should get onboard with the free publicity this will generate. Robin serves as his focus group. She notices that he licks his lips repeatedly. The video distribution company will allow James to lose the lips if he does some reshoots. Chloe is initially reluctant to participate, but agrees to help out as long as she’s really drunk. That’ll certainly help with continuity.
June ends up having casual sex with soy latte guy. She sneaks away during the night just like Chloe had advised her to do. This leads to what June thinks is a next-day booty call. As it turns out, soy latte guy only needed someone to comfort him after his beloved parrot, Judy, flies away. June ends up being the shoulder for him to cry on. It’s a very relationship-y thing to do. Chloe is extremely disappointed. She smashes June’s cell phone so she can stop sending the guy texts. She then smashes a stranger’s cell, though we’re not sure why.
Chloe steps in to dump soy latte guy for her roommate. She doesn’t understand why June has to attach feelings to sex. All that changes when she tries to make the tape with James. Neither of them can go through with it after they realize they actually care for each other. Chloe is furious. Thanks to June’s influence, she actually cares. She’s ruined! She also finds soy latte guy’s parrot for him. That doesn’t mean June will be getting back together with him. She’ll just see him in the tub.

Episode 1.5: Making Rent…
June is worried because she won’t be able to make rent this month. Chloe can’t make rent either. That’s why she’s running another roommate scam. June promptly puts the kibosh on her plans. Chloe asks James for a loan, but now it’s Luther who impedes her chance at a financial bailout. That’s only because she’s already borrowed over $20,000 from his boss. Luther is also holding a grudge against Chloe for never reading his play.
June misses the sense of community she used to have back in Indiana, so she’s been attending a local church. Make that a local Korean church. She has no money for the collection basket, so she donates some of her homemade jam. Once June learns how popular her jam is, she realizes she can sell it to pay the rent. Chloe agrees to help her in this venture. June is horrified to find out why.
As it turns out, Chloe had Eli rig cameras throughout the kitchen to capture the two beautiful roomies playfully make jam together. She then put the footage on a sexy website titled “Jammin’ June’s Jams.” Who knew there was a market for folks with a fruit fetish? They stand to make a fortune. Unfortunately, Chloe had no idea that Eli set up a 60-day free trial period.
June tries to sell the jam at the coffeehouse. Too bad the health inspector, who happens to be Eli, confiscates all her inventory. He happens to know that this particular jam was made in some very filthy conditions. June is now officially desperate for money. She’s so desperate that she resorts to charging Robin some pretty hefty prices for access to the object of her obsession. As for Chloe, James advises her to use her smarts to figure out a way to come up with her share of the rent.
James has launched a new line of super-tight jeans. He’s calling them Beek Jeans. The billboard that advertises his new pants is next to one where a chef is pushing some meatballs. It appears as if he’s very excited to see a different kind of meatballs, the ones in James’s jeans. It’s all good. The jeans are a hit with the gay community. This causes a ripple effect that makes James gobs of money.
June doesn’t feel good about what she’s doing to get her share of the rent. She confesses her scam to Chloe. The two roomies realize they are each having an effect on each other. Chloe is starting to actually feel guilty about some of her scams. For instance, she loosened the railing in James’s place so she could sue him after taking a fall. That never happens since Robin is the one who takes a spill after paying to give a public toast to Chloe. In light of her injuries, June agrees to waive her fee, which is nice.
